This filing prepares a petition for your spouse. At the final step, choose completed-PDF upload, the USCIS guided online form, or a printable paper filing when that method is available. You review, sign, pay, and submit through your own USCIS account or by mail. Effortless Visa does not enter your USCIS account. Petitions for a parent, child, son or daughter, or brother or sister are not available yet.

Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status

Prepare Form I-485 as the spouse of a living U.S. citizen, with Form I-130 filed at the same time, already pending, or approved.

This guided path is for certain spouses of living U.S. citizens who entered the United States after an official inspection at a border or airport, or who received official permission called parole. We will ask a few questions first. If this path may not fit your situation, we will tell you to get individual help.

Spouse outside the United States? After Form I-130 approval and visa availability when required, the case normally continues through NVC, CEAC, a medical exam, and an embassy or consulate interview. That branch does not use Form I-485.

Both routes can reach permanent residence. The later filings below apply only when their requirements are met.

Removing conditions from residence

Military service, living abroad with a U.S.-citizen spouse, preserving residence while abroad, an unresolved immigration status, or other legal complications need individual review.
